Giveaways, Celebrations and General Woohoo’s! Come find out why!

With a title like that, you’ve GOT to be wondering what we’re up to at RU, right? Well, let’s not hold you in suspense any longer.

Romance University was listed in Writer’s Digest as one of the Top 101 Best Websites for Writers! The 15th annual list is posted in the May/June issue. After combing through literally thousands of writer’s websites, WD selected RU as one of two romance writer’s websites.

Writer's Digest: 2013 Best Writing Websites (2013)
This website has been awarded a Best Writing Website.
Sponsored by Writer’s Digest, Writer’s Market,
Writer’s Digest University & Writer’s Digest Shop.

We’re tickled PINK!

But even more so, we’re grateful to YOU! Our loyal readers, our indefatigable commenters, and most especially our Visiting Professors, who give us outstanding lectures. YOU are the winners of this award – we’re happy to be along for the ride!

Add to that, just a week ago, RU boasted it’s 1000th post. Can you believe it? One thousand free lectures, brought to you by real people who have BEEN THERE and want to share their knowledge. We’re stunned with our good fortune to have such wonderful contributors and outstanding VP’s.

And finally, even though we’re celebrating a tad bit early – RU’s fourth anniversary is only two weeks away. Another milestone! We’d like to thank the founders, Kelsey Browning, Adrienne Giordano and Tracey Devlyn for having the concept of RU – free lectures for romance writers – and I’d personally like to thank Jennifer Tanner, Becke Martin Davis and Robin Covington for the hard work they do behind the scenes. All for one, one for all!

Prizes given away today include:

  • Bullet Earrings and a copy of The Chase by Adrienne Giordano

  1. Congrats on the double celebration!

    I love Margie Lawson’s website: http://margielawson.com/

She offers amazing classes that have changed my writing.

  2. Hey, gals –

Congrats to all on this fabulous honor! This was one of our dreams when Tracey, Adrienne and I started RU in 2009.

I’m so thankful for all the visiting professors and the RU faculty who took over when A, T & I retired to “faculty emeritus” – :-).

It’s great knowing this site has made a difference for so many writers. It would be fascinating to find out how many of RU’s regular readers have gotten published or contracted over the past four years!

Hugs to Carrie, Robin, Becke and Jennifer!

I am not a writer, just an avid reader. I peruse many sites learning more about amazing writers and getting ideas for books i want to read.

  9. Yay ladies. I am so thrilled that you’re receiving recognition for creating such a fabulous tool for us writers and grateful to you for teaching me so much.

  10. Yay!! Congratulations!! This is so well deserved. I love to say, ‘everything I learned about writing romance I learned from romanceuniversity!” I read a lot of author blogs, but this is my mainstay go to site.

  11. Good morning everyone! How exciting to see that wonderful badge on RU’s home page. As Kels said, this was one of our dreams for RU when we first started RU and it’s a thrill to see it happen. It just proves the point of how generous the romance writing community is.

I’m so thankful to Carrie, Jen, Becke and Robin for the amazing work they do on RU. We couldn’t have turned our “baby” over to a better team. You guys rock!

  12. Wow! Congratulations!
Though I write YA adventure novels, I add a liberal sprinkling of romance. I love all I’ve learned here the past year. Thanks for such a wonderful site! <3

  20. Congrats on this great achievement. I started following RU from day one, but I kind of drifted away for a while when I wasn’t taking my writing seriously. I’m back in the swing now, and RU is a daily stop for me. Keep up the great work!

Margie Lawson is awesome, but I also like Larry Brooks site, and KM Weiland as well.

    Congrats!

  22. Jen, Becke, Robin and Carrie–

Thanks so much for all the hard work you’ve put into RU. What an accomplishment to win the coveted WD award! So incredibly proud of all of you.

And HUGE thanks to RU’s Visiting Professors and dedicated readers–we appreciate your generosity, enthusiasm, and continued support!

    Hugs,

  23. I’m not sure who nominated us for the W-D award, but thanks! It’s great to be among esteemed writing blogs such as Writer Unboxed and Jane Friedman.

Thanks to Kelsey, Adrienne & Tracey for their initial vision, to my current RU cohorts and their mastery of the behind-the-scenes-last-minute-scramble, and to our fabulous contributors and readers.

My favorite blogs include Anne R. Allen’s blog (with RU contributor Ruth Harris), and Writer Unboxed, both of whom made the W-D list. Also, I’d be lost without Grammar Girl.

It’s almost been four years since the inception of RU, and it’s rewarding and encouraging to see many of our readers become published authors.

Thanks everyone for dropping by to comment!

  24. Thank you all for giving back so graciously to the writing community. It is greatly appreciated!!!

One of my “other” favorite writer sites is Savvy Authors. They provide a great deal of information and networking opportunities as well.

Again, thank you for all each and everyone of you do to support the most challenging and rewarding career paths I’ve ever known! :)

  25. Wow, congrats, RU folks!!! This site has been a wealth of knowledge for me, and the community here is welcoming and encouraging. It really doesn’t surprise me that you guys got this award because you’ve been my go-to writing site…since its inception, I must say. :-)

Let’s see…other writing blogs. I do like Jami Gold’s blog too. Her posts are thoughtful and well-researched, and I love the discussions she has in the comments.

Thanks, RU folks, for the great work you do here!!!

  26. RU,

Just as I was a late to the party with joining RU as a contributor, I’m late here as well.

Firstly, I am SO glad that those confirmations came through for you after what was apparently my early issue of WD. You had me sweating thinking I was punked some how. :)

Secondly, I can’t think of, not only a website, but of a group of people who deserve it more than you do. Don’t think that as an empathetic writer your intial startup woes are lost on me, they’re not.

While you may not have intended (initially) to be in this position today, your intentions, your fortitude, your drive and…well…just your love for the craft has much deservadly gotten you recognized.

I am thankful you have brought me into your fold and intend to (somewhat subtly) rub it in the face of my 40K+ Twitter followers. :)

    Of course I jest…

Carrie… You have been there with me from about as close to my start as you can get. Thank you for all you have done. In this day and age of distance, Social Media, and gut instinct… we still clicked and I am so thankful for that.

To Tracey, Kelsey, Adrienne, Jennifer, Becke (Love your pic), and Robin…Thank you for trusting in me and for all the eencouragement you’ve lent me. You are ALL doing a great thing here and, because of it, it has been picked up on the National Radar of Writer’s Digest!

    Congrats!

  27. I discovered RU earlier this year, and I’m so glad I did.

Congratulations! I’m an unpublished writer and trying to learn as much as I can.

I’m excited for you getting this great honor.

  29. Congratulations! That is a very high honor, indeed. I follow several writing blogs already mentioned: K.M. Weiland, Writer Unboxed, Savvy Authors, and more. I need all the help I can get! Thanks so much for supporting developing authors.

  30. Thanks so much for making our celebration so much fun! I like the writing blogs others mentioned and others, too – I subscribe to so many, I need to double check that they’ve all been listed. Romance Bandits was the first one to hook me but I don’t get there as often as I’d like anymore.

  31. Wow, talk about a festive day — I wish I’d made it over earlier, but it’s fun seeing all the VERY well-deserved celebration!

Congratulations to the founders and the next generation who’ve kept RU such a great site for more than a thousand posts…that’s truly impressive.

Laurie, looking forward to a lot more years of RU

  35. Congratulations on your dual distinctions. I love RU and have to admit my fav here is Handsome Hansel who talks about what it is like writing romance as a man in a “woman’s” genre.
As for other sites I like – Hope Clarks’s Funds for Writers. Tons of good information there.
    Congratulations again.

Other writing sites I love: Jane Friedman, the Passive Guy, and Alma Katsu (but only on Fridays) for publishing news… Susan Spann’s site for business lessons for writers… Tia Nevitt’s blog for her amazing writing infographics… and MuseTracks for their monthly agent/editor shop opportunities.
And I am excited to be appearing here on RU next week!

  38. Love all the classes from RU, especially Laurie Schnebly! She’s made such a big difference in my writing!

Lynn thinking that her mother was going to name her Laurie, but when her cousin stole the name a month before she was born for her newboen daughter, she named me Lynn instead.

As a writer, I always check every site that makes a Writer’s Digest list, they are usually so helpful!

I love classes from Laurie Schnebly! I am also a Margie Lawson fan and Larry Brooks fan – (there’s no better help around than Larry for the structure essence of story)
