While the Romance Writers of America conference is going on in San Antonio, I thought it might be fun to look at some romantic stories about writers. Get the movie Romancing the Stone for more on how exciting the lives of authors’ are. One of these books even features a parody of a romance writers’ conference.
Prolific Kasey Michaels writes fun mysteries in addition to her delicious Regency reads, and the Maggie series featured an author who has to deal with the characters from her historical series come to life. Viscount St. Just is turning her life upside down – not just her fiction – and he insists that they attend with We Are Romance conference in New York, only to help solve a murder with Maggie in Maggie by the Book.
Knight of a Trillion Stars by Dara Joy has been mentioned here before as it’s one of my favorites for its humor and excellent chemistry, and there are fabulous scenes between romantic leads Deanna and Lorgin at a sci-fi convention where Deanna wants to sell her manuscript. The hot alien Lorgin fits right in among the costumed characters and fun activities.
Maya Rodale’s novella series featuring librarian and secret historical romance writer Jane begins with Bad Boy Billionaire’s Wicked Arrangement. Jane writes that she is engaged to famous wealthy Duke on Facebook by accident only to find out he is willing to go along with the arrangement to make his life easier. Get all three novellas to complete the story of these two unlikely but very appealing lovers.
Sophia Nash’s Duke Diaries follows a favorite Regency theme when quiet Verity finds herself in bed with her brother’s sworn enemy, Duke Rory, and has to marry him. Neither is happy about the engagement, but it’s not the marriage that bothers Verity so much. After all, she’s always been a little attracted to Rory, but the fact that no one can find out about her secret life as the author of the Duke Diaries.
Manda Collins teaches readers How to Entice an Earl with the story of Lady Madeline, who finds a crime scene while researching her novel in a gaming establishment. Her foray into unusual locations brings her into the sights of a dangerous criminal. Her longtime friend Earl Christian is first annoyed then intrigued to discover the bold lady in the crime scene is he is investigating for his old commanding officer. Tension between them and with the villain mount in this fast paced sexy read.
Erotica authors find romance in real life, in the most unlikely situations. In Happily Ever After by Elizabeth Maxwell, 46 year old single suburban mom writes erotica secretly at night under another name and is surprised when a strange passage appears in her work. Then she sees one of her heroes, Aidan, at Target. She has to help him and others from her in her hilarious genre twisting adventure with a satisfying ending.
Teresa Medeiros brings romance to social media with Goodnight Tweetheart when novelist Abigail finds a cure for her writer’s block in 140 character increments on Twitter. Writing with professor Mark helps her find a way out of her head and into life only everything online is of course not as it seems – sometimes it is even better.
If you are in San Antonio or elsewhere, get inspired with these novelist characters.
