FAQ:
Q: Can you use Annie Sloan chalk paint over wax?
A: Also- we recommend ALWAYS using Annie’s Wax with her Chalk Paint®! It is important to understand that once you wax a piece of furniture, you cannot apply polyurethane, Lacquer, shellac, varnish, urethane, etc…. over wax. It will eventually peel off. You may not have a problem right away, but it will be a problem. I guarantee that.
Q: Which is darker graphite or Annie Sloan dark wax?
A: Click on photo to enlarge. Graphite is a soft black – which I like to compare to a dark slate color. It is made with purplish blues, browns, and is not completely black. When waxed with Annie’s Dark Wax- the color becomes even more richer and warm as shown above.
Q: Can you use chalk paint to make wax black?
A: You can color the Dark Wax to make it less brown by using a little of our Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in the wax. Use Old White to make white wax or a bit of Annie Sloan Aubusson Chalk Paint to make the wax almost black. As noted in a post earlier, the waxes can become very soft in heat, so store them in a cool place.
Q: What do you use to clean Annie Sloan glazes?
A: When making a glaze- I use Mineral Spirits. I also use Mineral Spirits to clean Annie Sloan Soft Waxes from my wax brushes. When you use Mineral Spirits cut the Dark Wax to make a glaze, I feel it is very important to NOT use the “green” (environmentally safer) brand of Mineral Spirits.
